ABSTRACT In the contemporary global scenery, regions acquire new relevancy when being the geographic establishments where productive processes that promote the ...

Understanding the present state of activities of the sector in this zone of Mexico is fundamental to a consideration of the expansion of commerce as a greater strategy of economic politics in which the national priorities have been modified. Food production becomes the primary focus and goal, with internal consumption playing a secondary role. At the same time it has generated 'empty' institutional arrangements which have lead to uneven outcomes. This paper examines pig meat production in the state of Sonorous, and the insertion of farmers into the international marketplace.

Also, these families have lost autonomy to decide what, how much and how to produce, the use of their natural resources, the inputs and distribution channels used. This article aims to illustrate the loss of governance of these production units, with a case study of Sonoran livestock families, that are integrated both in global chain of beef cattle, through the raising calves for the us meat industry, as in the local chain of milk by producing cheese. The results reveal the disadvantages of families in the global chain, compared with the high level of governance that they have achieved in the local chain. Keywords: governance, family livestock, value chains, cheese, calves. jel classification: Z13.

The working hypothesis is that tension among these links has an influence on a social organization’s structure and processes, conditioning their continuity and consolidation. In order to test it, a qualitative study was conducted based on the systematization of the genealogy, morphology and dynamics of Cobanaras Federation, a female-based organization in southern Sonora. Among the results, it should be highlighted that, as a survival strategy, interactions of this group are materialized in a tense combination among the three types of disputing links, with a greater emphasis on neoliberal ones, as an external pressure, than on democratic-participative ones, as an expression of internal resistance.

However, analyzing the results after few more than ten years of NAFTA, had demonstrated that the economic growth has not arrived homogenously to all regions, nor the states that inside them. So is the case of Sonora, located in the North border of Mexico, whose strategic geographical position promised better expectations. This paper has as objective to demonstrate again, that an economic growth model found on exogenous basis turns out pour results in medium and long term and does not leave room to enhance local capabilities.

Given the relevance that is conferred to social organizations during the process of citizenship building, we propose a model to analyze if those processes are developing inside them and what types of citizenship they produce.
