CLFSA receives the 2019 President's Diversity Award in in the Campus Organization category.

The President's Diversity Awards celebrates members of the Cal Poly community who have exhibited a commitment to diversity. The awards are an opportunity to recognize individual members from the faculty, staff, and student communities as well as contributions from a recognized student organization and university group.

Dolores Huerta Keynote Speaker

The Cross Cultural Centers and the Office of the University Diversity and Inclusion welcomed the campus community to hear civil rights icon Dolores Huerta speak at Cal Poly in May of 2018. The event was titled "Dolores Huerta: Change Maker and Civil Rights Leader." Dolores Huerta gave the keynote for Inclusion Excellence Month. Huerta is a labor leader and civil rights activist who, with Cesar Chavez, was the co-founder of the United States Workers (UFW) union.

Dr. Gilda L. Ochoa
2016 Susan Currier Visiting Professor for Teaching Excellence

CLFSA sponsored Dr. Gilda L. Ochoa, Professor of Sociology and Chicana/o Latina/o Studies from Pomona College, to present her research and book Academic Profiling: Latinos, Asian Americans, and the Achievement Gap on Tuesday, March 8th.

2015

Cal Poly's first AB540 Workshop

Dr. Macias presented a Central Coast Dream Coalition Train the Trainer Workshop. Dr. Macias provided a comprehensive ally training including a discussion of the history of immigration policy and how it impacts our understanding of undocumented peoples and financial aid. Participants from Cal Poly, Cuesta College and Allan Hancock College attended the training. Dr. Elena Macias is a community organizer, and former educator and administrator from CSULB. Dr. Macias has done a lot of work in supporting undocumented students.
