For migrants supporting the family left behind is a moral duty, the sign their social affiliation and the gauge of their belonging to a network of kinship and exchange. As time goes by, though, some of them perceive the demands of their original families as excessive. They have thus developed different strategies to come to terms with problem of control over the use of remittances. Building on a fieldwork I conducted in Dakar, in this article I consider an original case of reorganization of remittances sending, put in place through the establishment of a website offering migrants the opportunity to purchase at a distance provisions they want delivered to their families in Senegal. This case study highlights the tensions that surround the practices of support within families that live in transnational spaces and shows how migration can encourage migrants to reorganize such relations, renegotiating their obligations of solidarity.L’envoi de numéraire est l’un des liens les plus forts unissant les familles dispersées par la migration.

It analyses the different uses and representations associated with dual nationality as well as the scales of belonging that accompany this mobility, showing that the possession of European citizenship is fostering the current resurgence of Italian emigration, including from Latin America. The article also argues that this mobility has brought into question European migration policies, shifting the focus from the rhetoric of border closures to practices of selective immigration.
