The intrinsic vulnerability of the karstic systems and the negative impacts of the human presence on the subterranean climatic conditions provoke some alterations in its sensitive natural equilibriums. The visitors exhalation (tourists and speleologists) of water vapour and carbon dioxide into the air, as well as the use of artificial lighting into the caves, modify the main environmental parameters (relative humidity, air temperature and CO2 concentration), leading to the degradation of speleothems due to high rates of condensation-corrosion, among other negative impacts. In order to calculate the visitor carrying capacity of two important caves of Central Portugal (Pena and Soprador do Carvalho, respectively in Estremadura and Sicó Massifs), the continuous monitoring and its climate dynamic analyse are in course. Preliminary data and results are presented here. Although if these two caves are not tourist strictly, they are very visited in order to perform a environmental education and speleological investigation. The variation of climatic parameters (air, water and rocks temperatures, relative air humidity and CO2 concentration) in space and time, in relation also with the number of visitors (tourist frequentation, school education and speleological activity), are measured in continuous through the installation of two networks of meteorological stations, inside and outside the selected caves. Periodically mobile measurements (two times in a month) of relative air humidity and temperature into the caves are recorded by portable thermo-hygrograph meter. Geostatistical tools for characterizing spatial and temporal variability of the microclimatic data is used and included in the construction of a underground climate dynamic model for each one of the caves, through also the interaction with the cave morphological profiles, water/air located inputs (entrances) and water flow and air circulation. The preliminary results from the analysis of the microclimatic data records and the acknowledgment of the anthropogenic impacts on Pena and Soprador do Carvalho caves are used to establish the regeneration period of the subterranean atmosphere after the human presence in the caves, as well as the construct of a first suitable management model for underground environments conservation. The visitor carrying capacity calculation will be the next step in this investigation after more data record. The importance of such knowledge allows not only understanding better the selected caves, but also determining the anthropogenic influences on its changes, stability and regeneration possibility in the space and time, that is a significant contribution for this thematic never studied in Portugal before. Despite its randomness, both in time and in space, the manifestations of risk seem to have their own territories and landscapes.
In the specific case study, the county of Torres Novas (Central Portugal), we can define four distinct territories by both natural hazards (limestone mountain sandstone and limestone hills and the alluvial plain of the river Almonda) and urban hazards (concentration of the population in urban areas).
After an exhaustive study of natural and anthropogenic municipal risks, limestone mountains are considered a territory with susceptibility to for rockfalls; the sandstone and limestone hills are most favorable to the development of landslides, mud flows and hydric erosion; the floodplain to the floods; and the urban area to a set of human-induced risks, such as urban fires and traffic accidents.
These same areas by the human occupation, express also different vulnerabilities which in some cases will increase the risk (sandstone and limestone hills, urban areas) and in other cases may reduce the risk (limestone mountains and floodplains).

With this work we intend to evaluate the susceptibility to flood risk in the municipality of Torres Novas (Portugal) through the combination of heuristic and quantitative multi-criteria (HEC-RAS) models, validated with historical records published in newspapers and with field work. The results show that the areas of greatest susceptibility to floods are the valley of Almonda river, the marginal areas of the valley of the Ribeira do Alvorão and Ribeira da Bezelga, the depressed areas of the bottom of the valleys with streams of higher hierarchical order, the sectors of the confluence of major collectors and, finally, in urban areas, where the high rate of impermeability,, the occupation of the major channels beds full, together with the inadequate dimension of storm sewers promote the natural development of flash floods

With 2 geoparks (Arouca and Naturtejo), 7 protected areas (includes 3 Natural Monuments), the Center of Portugal has a wide range of landscapes and important geological and geomorphological heritage that characterize it as a territory with high potential for geotourism. The main purpose of this study was contributed to know the profile of tourists visiting geoparks and geosites of the Center of Portugal, in the last ten years, and their socio-economic profile, expectations and satisfaction.
