Kassandra Jackson Miller
I work at the intersection of ancient medicine, science, technology, and magic, with a particular interest in the history of ideas. My monograph, Time and Ancient Medicine: How Sundials and Water-Clocks Changed Medical Science, came out with Oxford University Press in 2023. I also co-edited a multi-authored volume titled Down to the Hour: Short Time in the Ancient Mediterranean (Brill, 2020). I am a passionate educator who has experience working with students from a variety of backgrounds, including undergraduates at the Universities of Chicago and Oxford, middle and high school students in New York City, adult residents of the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, and incarcerated scholars affiliated with the Colby Justice Think Tank. I regularly teach courses in Greek and Latin language, Roman history, and academic writing, as well as thematic history courses such as Ancient Magic, Ancient Medicine, Ancient Science & Technology, and The Ancient Other. I also have a background in theater and, specifically, in the performance of ancient drama, which helps me to create dynamic and engaging learning environments.
