Relying on statistical data and ethnographic information, the authors analyze four different dimensions of the immigrant integration process (economic, social, cultural, and political) and show that there is no single path for its achievement, but instead an array of strategies that yield different results. However, their analysis also shows that immigrants' successful integration essentially depends upon their legal status and long residence in the region. The book shows that, despite this finding, immigrants nevertheless decide to settle in Los Angeles, the place where they have made their homes.

It analyses the narrative strategies used to re-signify these experiences in the present, to construct possible futures as sexual subjects. In-depth autobiographical interviews were conducted with nine Central American migrants of diverse genders and sexualities and were analysed using an approach inspired by dramaturgical analysis. We identified the most significant events, characters and settings related to experiences of sexual violence. Three main strategies of resignification were identified: the reaffirmation of pleasure, desire, or consent; the decision to emigrate; and entry into loving-affective relationships. The focus on the analysis of sexual violence before and during the migration event represents a contribution to the ongoing debate on sexuality, gender, and migration. Strategies of resignification allow participants to imagine possible narratives future as subjects who wish to express their gender identity and sexuality freely.

We argue that it is fundamental to place these populations’ subjective experiences at the core of the analysis to understand their active stance in making meaning of their circumstances. We suggest a typology for approaching the migration projects that emerge while stranded and discuss migrants and asylum seekers’ active involvement in Civil Society Organizations. We conclude that there is an urgency to recognize that strandedness is a condition requiring that States, CSOs, and scholars reassess how societies could create a space for and with migrants.

To this end, we start with two ethnographic cases in northwestern Mexico. These cases are part of one's ethnography undertaken between 2019 and 2020 and another between 2013 and 2018. Both studies show that we cannot speak of definitive ruptures or of an individualist transformation in the lives of Pentecostal converts. Although the variety of practices arising from conversions is not limited to deliverances, the latter have rarely been discussed in the debate about Christian individualism.

spiritual models for treating problematic drug use. The lay nature of the state, specifically in the area of public health, serves
as a basis for problematizing the ways in which that state has recognized medical pluralism while denying the
religious/spiritual dimension present in various forms of non-biomedical attention. The article analyzes the particular case
of religiously oriented rehabilitation centers, which constitute one of the main therapeutic options in Baja California
(Mexico), given the nonexistence of alternatives that are public, secular, and free of charge. The case of these centers is
paradigmatic for analyzing the ambivalent relationship the state maintains with religious or spiritual therapeutic services.
While the state clearly recognizes their existence, and even finances them in some cases, it attempts to ignore the religious
basis underlying their treatment model. This article will discuss the advantages and disadvantages resulting from that
ambivalent relationship. It will also propose some means for emerging from this situation so as to promote, firstly, a medical
pluralism that allows for knowledgeable dialogue among and about differing forms of treatment, and, secondly, recognition
of the contributions of religious and spiritually based treatment models in the public health field.

Based on ethnographic work carried out in the Tijuana/San Diego and Tecun Uman/Tapachula border regions, an analysis is conducted of the relationship between the border region and the spatial mobility of its inhabitants. We conclude that there are at least four possible ways of constructing mobility in border contexts.

The purpose of this article is to study the adaptations and representations from which four immigrant families, from different regions in India and settled in Tijuana (Mexico), recreate their religious practice. After belonging to a context where Hinduism is predominant, their religious practice becomes a minority when they migrate to Mexico. This situation identifies the negotiations between materiality and its relationship with spirituality on the part of believers themselves, since, without the intervention of a religious authority and in the absence of traditional temples in the place of arrival, families recreate the rituals at home. Following the methodological orientation of lived religion, we began by analyzing the materiality present in their household altars allowing us to study the processes of adaptation (changes and permanences) that take place when they move their daily lives from India to Mexico, specifically to the border between Tijuana and San Diego. We were also able to explore the emotions and meanings that individuals associate with the local elements, with which they continue their religious practice in a foreign country. As a result, the recreations through household altars reveal the elements that each individual values for his or her own religious practice. This article thus reflects on the practice of Hinduism in Tijuana, from a perspective centered on the believers themselves, in a context of religious autonomy as a consequence of migration.
