Our new teaching strategy encompasses classical lessons and practical training, paper and electronic text book and possibility of acces to self evaluating system ExaMe. As a result

The development of new approaches is based on experience gathered in I4C and TripleC projects of the European Union. In the paper we discuss basic requirements on electronic health record and special needs of the Czech healthcare system. Finally, pilot application named

This paper describes the evolution of the EHR systems developed at the EuroMISE Center in the field of dentistry named MUDR and MUDRLite and its graphical component for dentists called DentCross. The problems with data entry into an EHR during examination of a

Particularly important in educational programmes and knowledge dissemination is the role of Internet. Therefore we also describe special activities concerned with the specific research at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague. These are selected tools for blended learning tools, ExaMe system and the role of the European Journal for Biomedical Informatics (EJBI), an official multilingual journal of EFMI, for Ph.D. student's cooperation and understanding the multidisciplinary field of biomedical informatics [1].

The procedure of the identification is presented in two case reports with a new possibility of electronic imaging called Dental Cross in comparison with classical dental documentation, which is officially used for identification of the missing persons by Interpol.

For more advanced use in real medical applications it is necessary to find out mathematical models of physicians' decision-making processes. The acquisition of a formal model from text-based guidelines is a crucial point for development of decision support systems. We introduce a system for formalization and presentation of medical knowledge contained in clinical practice guidelines where knowledge formalization is based on the GLIF model.

In 1999-2005 the Institute of Rheumatology in cooperation with the EuroMISE Center has developed the Clinical database/National Register of selected systemic inflammatory rheumatic diseases inclusive of a bank of sera and DNA. Aims of this phase of the pilot research were gathering clinical, laboratory, genetic, pharmaco-and socio-economic data in a representative sample of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, polymyositis/dermatomyositis, mixed connective tissue disease; rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile chronic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and reactive arthritis. In 2002 the preset number of over 2000 registered patients had been achieved with collaboration of 34 territorial and 20 institutional rheumatologists in the whole cove...

One approach using a computer in medical education to improve the teaching process in this respect is described in this paper. On the basis of data about real patients and the optimal antibiotic treatment validated by the antibiotic center of the Faculty Hospital II, we can evaluate the student's abilities to predict correct antibiotic treatment. The general program written for this task and the method of evaluating the student's predictive skills are described.

The EuroMISE Center developed a pilot EHR application called MUDR Lite (multimedia distributed electronic health record). The study compares the elapsed time necessary to update/enter the information about the patient's dental status using the above mentioned three methods. The paper dental card is the most rapid method, but not the best for medical documentation and dentists.

It describes several e-health applications for health data collecting and sharing that are running in the Czech Republic. These are IZIP system, electronic health record MUDR and K4CARE project applications. The e3-health concept is considered as a tool for judging e-health applications in different healthcare settings.
