Reviewing their ideological and political direction in the post-conflict environment is the aim of this study. The authors investigate the Ukrainian far right phenomenon: what kind of movements there are, where they come from, and what their role in the conflict has been. This is followed by an assessment of what threat this poses in the broader strategic context of the war and after it will be over. The analysis brings forward two key points. First, groups like these are a product and exponent of political warfare by state actors, featuring as tools for covert action. Second, by incorporating such militias into the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Ukrainian government makes their radical attitudes diminish. Nationalism, even in the extreme spectrum of political ideology, could be a product of the war. Meeting the criteria for integration into the European Union is an important factor stimulating rule-based order and deradicalization processes. Although there are some potentially worrying implications stemming from the prestige gained by their combat record, the far right will therefore likely continue to remain a fringe phenomenon with small political impact.

After a brief discussion of the state of intelligence and security studies in Austria, the authors provide a comparison to Singapore, a nation with similar geopolitical issues as well as a different and, arguably, more developed and comprehensive academic program to confront and deal effectively with security challenges. The article concludes with four critical suggestions for the establishment of a āCentral Europeanā Intelligence and Security Studies program in Austria. The authors recommend combining academics and practitioners on program faculties, emphases on domestic, regional and extra-regional factors in both program contents and the composition of student bodies, an interdisciplinary approach to the critical role of ideologies, and the development of specific expertise in order to understand and confront regional threats.

āā¦ā¦Left-wing extremism in Germany is multifaceted, both ideologically and structurally. The dangers arising from it are not always easy to grasp. It starts with the location of the history of ideasā¦ā (SchĆ¼nemann, 2008)
The 2008 warnings by the former Minister of Interior for the German state Lower-Saxony are reality. This book is an accumulation of study, observation and interacting with the far-left extremists in Asia and around some hot-spots first-hand. It is no longer an academic exercise, trivializing the threat of far-left extremist Marxist movements. But as it was with the jihadist it needs the critical, sometimes, lone voice in the wilderness to illustrate the nexus between history, networks, contexts, ideology, and violence the far-left extremists Marxist to pose to make the point. My book is a warning to those who trivialize the threat of far-left extremist Marxist ideology. I am fortunate that I was at the forefront at the moment when communism collapsed in 1991 and laid open the fallacy of the now so eagerly adopted narrative that is like national socialists or religious extremism are brutal failures for society to bear.
The German minister point is often missed in the academic, political, and national security domains. Far left extremism is underestimated, devious in execution, gifted in concealment and historically competent. I argue more than then the far-right and extremist jihadist to exploit the sympathetic, apologists of far-left extremism, which I summarize in the categories of beachhead groups, vanguards, and far-left extremist groups. I will draw from experiences in Hong Kong, Indonesia, the United States and Europe to offer some views on how the far-left extremist Marxist/Leninist movement views the world. My observation may be viewed controversial, and even offensive but they offer an unmasked view of the world on the left.
This book based on actual field experiences across the globe because a global perspective is needed. It touches the most sensitive social, sometimes, taboos while presenting the various variation of the far-left Marxist extremists as seen. It drawn on the large body of contemporary revolutionary writings, will expose some of the apologist and wrong assumptions that are easily and eagerly circulated in media and quickly adopted by academia, policy officials, politicians, and national security officers. In my dealings with many policy officials, even in most senior counter terrorism institutions and intelligence agencies I found an intellectual laziness that only benefits the far-left extremists. It poses the question if we as a society, after 9/11, after the Red Army Faction, after the āGerman autumnā, after the National Liberation movements in the middle east, South America and now with the Black Block proudly on the march in the name of ill-conceived, extremist views, have not learned anything. The short answer is, No, seemingly not.
This book does not attempt to have all the answers. Marxism today, as it was in the heydays of the global communist movement, is multifaceted, complex, and often contradictory even hostile to other communist lines. This book aims to contribute to the understanding of what are the new threats for society, policy, and for national security officials and academia to revisit and critically view the far-left extremist Marxist groups, movements, and doctrine. This book aims to be a starting point. At least I tried.
