Simon D . Fisher
Simon Fisher (he/him) is Assistant Professor of United States history at Dalhousie University (Halifax, Canada). He received his PhD in Gender and Women's History and African American History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2022. His research focuses on the intersectional histories of sexuality, gender, race, and social movements in the 20th-century United States.
His recent work on African American gender non-conforming civil rights and feminist activist Pauli Murray has been published in Journal of African American History, Transgender Studies Quarterly, the SAGE Encyclopedia of Trans Studies, and on the podcast BackStory.
Prior to devoting his full attention to academia, he produced the documentary Riot Acts: Flaunting Gender Deviance in Music Performance (2009) under the name simon strikeback. A recent addition to the Board of the Committee on LGBT History, he lives in Kjipuktuk in Mi’kma’ki (Halifax, Nova Scotia).
