Roadmap

This page lists the big features we are working on or considering for near-future Seq releases. To check out the contents of earlier releases, please visit the What's new? page in the Seq documentation.

Shipped in 2023

  • New parallel-dataflow query engine A new, unified storage architecture scales better on multicore hardware, and uses indexes more effectively, yielding order-of-magnitude response time improvements for many searches.
  • Easier management in Docker and Kubernetes A range of updates make Seq work in harmony with container hosts, in a wider range of environments.
  • OpenTelemetry log ingestion A native log ingestion endpoint for the OpenTelemetry Logs protocol (OTLP) — update 1, update 2.
  • Auditing Built-in audit of security- and confidentiality-relevant events occurring on a Seq instance.
  • Redesigned datepicker and date range navigation Simpler selection of last-X-intervals and custom ranges in the Events and Dashboards views.

Shipped in 2024

  • OpenTelemetry trace ingestion A native trace ingestion endpoint for the OpenTelemetry Traces protocol (OTLP).
  • Trace visualization Visualize and navigate hierarchical relationships in diagnostic data.
  • High-cardinality indexes Opt-in to defining indexes on high-cardinality log fields.

What are we working on now?

  • High availability (HA) Automatically fail-over between Seq cluster nodes.
  • Scale-out query execution Fully utilize cluster resources when executing large queries and searches.

What's coming up?

  • Native metrics ingestion Ingest and store pre-aggregated metric data using OpenTelemetry and/or Prometheus protocols.
  • WASM app hosting and isolation Run plug-in Seq Apps using a sandboxed WASM runtime.
  • SCIM/SAML integration Expose SCIM/SAML endpoints for IdP integration.
  • Projects Manage multiple projects with separate diagnostic data, user permissions, and related configuration on a single Seq instance.

There are a lot more smaller improvements planned than we can include here. If you're curious what else is on our radar, or want to discuss any of the roadmap features in more detail, please reach out to our support team or visit the discussion board.
