Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in most plants and they are of different forms. Chlorophylla, chlorophyllb, chlorophyllc1, chlorophyllc2 and chlorophylld. The chlorophyll molecule has a flat light absorbing head end which contains a magnesium atom at its centre. This explains the need for magnesium by plants because the deficiency of magnesium causes yellowing of the green parts of the plants. When a molecule of chlorophyll absorbs light, it is said to be excited. The energy from the light is used to boost electrons to a higher energy level. The chlorophyll molecules are located in two types of photosystem, known as photosystems I and II (PS I and PS II). These photosystems are visible as particles in the thylakoid membrane. The therapeutic properties of chlorophylls include, cleaning the intestines and eliminating body odour It also has some health benefits like, balancing the pH of the body, supporting healthy liver, etc.
