Festus Gail Gray

Pyramid broadcasting is a novel broadcasting system that provides video-on-demand over a metropolitan area network with a much lower access time than conventional broadcasting. As available bandwidth increases, access time improves exponentially, as opposed to linearly in conventional broadcasting. As the required access time decreases, the bandwidth requirement only increases logarithmically, as opposed to linearly in conventional broadcasting. This paper should be of interest to researchers and designers of networks that provide video services. The paper is partly tutorial and partly technical. Readers need only a general knowledge of communications systems terminology. The authors' concepts are original and significant. They should be given careful consideration by providers of video services.
