Function Management in Future Railway Mobile Communication Systems

Published: 01 January 2022 Publication History

Abstract

The Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) standard is defined with the aim to provide high speed, reliable and secure connectivity in digitalized railway networks. The FRMCS system architecture defines three layers of security, where the service stratum has to ensure that the systems is accessed only by authenticated and authorized handheld/onboard applications. Among the others, security functions include identification and management of different functions performed by the FRMCS users. The paper presents a service-based approach to function management, which may be used to provide integrity, confidentiality, privacy, non-repudiation, and availability. Procedures for automatic FRMCS user registration between different serving areas are considered. Models, representing the identity registration status from different points of view, are synthesized, formally described, and verified.
