Multiple-Scale Solution of Weakly Nonlinear Elliptic Equations on the Upper Half-Plane

Published: 01 April 1984 Publication History

Abstract

A multiple-scale perturbation method which was previously used to obtain solutions of some weakly nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet boundary-value problems on a semi-infinite strip is here extended to apply to problems on the upper half-plane. This is significant since in potential theory many problems can be solved by mapping to the upper half-plane. Examples are given and the method is applied to the nonlinear problem of a thin airfoil in subsonic flow.
