An inter-vehicle communication MAC protocol supported by roadside communication and its extension

Published: 01 October 2004 Publication History

Abstract

Communication systems between vehicles and roadside facilities are very important for supporting safe driving in ITS. In particular, high reliability should be supported in the lower layer protocols. This paper proposes an inter-vehicle communication MAC protocol supported by roadside communication called DRVC based on DSRC used in Japanese ETC and its extension. Evaluation shows the protocol attains higher reachability than ordinary DSRC. For its extension, we examine inter-vehicle communication protocol by forming a group of vehicles.
