Abstract

During the past ten years we have been witnessing the beginnings of a computer revolution that will be as profound in its effects as the industrial revolution of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This computer revolution has brought with it an enormous demand for computer technologists in both hardware and software areas. However, the computer revolution has resulted not only in a new technology, but also in fundamentally new approaches to some aspects of traditional academic disciplines such as engineering, physics, mathematics and even philosophy. Computers are affecting the conceptual framework of our society as well as its technology.
