Comprehensive evaluation of the resilience of Chinese cities basing on AHP Analysis

Abstract

The resilience of cities above the prefecture level across 30 provinces and cities in China has been assessed using hierarchical analysis, and an empirical analysis of the mechanism of urban resilience has been conducted through a panel fixed effects model. The findings indicate that urban resilience in cities exhibits a wave-like upward trajectory, with the majority of provinces and cities experiencing an increase in resilience, although the absolute values are relatively modest. The urban resilience in the eastern region surpasses the national average, outperforming the central, western, and northeastern regions. Meanwhile, the central region slightly lags behind the national average, and the western region displays the lowest levels of resilience.Cities demonstrating high resilience are predominantly situated in the eastern region, with Guangdong Province achieving the highest scores. Cities with moderate resilience are mainly concentrated in different regional types. The mechanism of urban resilience varies across these regional types, showcasing significant differences among the four major groups.
