A review of transduction techniques used in acoustics echo cancellation

Published: 19 June 2007 Publication History

Abstract

In this review we shall describe the most typical and conventional transducers used in the acoustic echo cancellation systems and the effect of the transducer characteristics on achieving echo cancellation. We shall also discuss the typical design issues found in the literature that often lead to failures in achieving echo cancellation. That is, it is not just a question of achieving good echo cancellation, but instead it can be a question of achieving the echo cancellation at all. The transducers used to capture and produce the sounds are a part of the enclosure and therefore form a part of echo cancellation system. We shall also look at some testing issues designers should consider when implementing an echo canceller.
