Teaching computing soft skills: an experiential approach

Abstract

While teaching technical skills to students of computer science and information technology is critical, it has become increasingly clear that computing professionals must also excel at the "soft" skills of communication and interpersonal interactions. This paper describes the authors' experience with two computing courses that focus on giving students exposure to soft skills within the context of real-world computing projects with real clients.
