Database design technique
Pages 273 - 280
Abstract
The usefullness of database management techniques is directly related to the manner in which the database itself is designed. Numerous attempts have been made to bring structure to the design process. The paper proposes a coherent integrated approach to database design and describes an extensive example of its use. Procedures to obtain functional dependencies are defined and shown to be effective. Tools to assist in the logical design of databases are described and their use illustrated.
