Novel Operation Modes for Sharing Energy Storage: Concept, Functional Analysis and Pilot Project

Published: 17 May 2021 Publication History

Abstract

Sharing energy storage (SES) is a novel business model and a promising solution for developing energy storage technology, waking up idle energy storage resources and improving the profits of energy storage projects. However, the operation modes of SES and the functions of SES participants are still unclear at present, which will affect the further development of SES. In order to address the above problem, this paper proposes three operation modes of SES based on the sharing characteristics and application scenarios. The proposed operation modes can match with different development stages of SES. Moreover, the functions of the SES participants in the operation modes are analyzed according to the participation degree and market rules. Finally, a pilot project of SES in Qinghai, China is introduced for verifying the feasibility and economic potential of SES and providing a significant experience for the future development of SES.
