Call for Special Issues Proposals

We encourage groups of experienced scholars to organize thematic special issues for the journal. Usually, we expect regular and special issues to comprise about 6-8 papers.

Proposals for ACM TORS special issues should be sent as PDF documents to the Editors-in-Chief. Special issue proposals are discussed in the Editorial Board and special issue proposers might be asked to refine their proposal based on the suggestions of the Board.

A proposal should have the following elements:

  • Title
  • Scope and topics of interest.
  • A description why it is the right time to publish a special issue on the topic
    • e.g., are there recent workshops, tutorials, or dedicated conference tracks on the topic
  • Examples of recently published journal or conference papers that would have been a match for the journal special issue.
  • List of guest editors with bio and scientific profile including experience in organizing special issues or scientific events. Usually, we expect a guest editor team to consist of 2-4 scholars.
  • List of researchers or groups who expressed interest in a special issue on the topic.
  • Proposed timeline

Once a special issue is accepted, the guest editors take the role of Associate Editors in the reviewing process, i.e., they are assumed to select reviewers for the papers, make sure that the reviewing process advances, and they finally recommend the acceptance or rejection of individual papers.

Each special issue features a short preface article of up to six pages authored by the special issue guest editors.
