Make it Look real, make it look cool

Published: 03 March 2006 Publication History

Abstract

In this talk, we'll take a close look at the process of creating visual effects for blockbuster films. Oftentimes, artists are faced with the challenge of creating computer graphics that not only look real, but also look cool, in order to satisfy the filmmaker's expectations. In today's movie market, there's a constant demand to make effects bigger and better than ever before, but for less money. We will examine the technological advancements and computing resources that are necessary to make this happen. We'll also discuss the skills required to work in this competitive industry and how education can prepare students to succeed.
