With the second phase of knowledge management (KM), companies are becoming more aware of exploiting knowledge from their knowledge inventories?built in the first phase of KM. This paper introduces semantic Web-enabled knowledge services, which can exchange knowledge as a tradable good on the Web. The authors first created a trading model to comply with real market structures. Within the scope of this model, a semantic-Web infrastructure for knowledge trading was designed as a multifaceted structure, with the widely used concept of ontology. Three interconnected ontologies (service ontology, provision ontology, and negotiation ontology) were introduced to model the semantics of knowledge objects. The trading flow for knowledge service is based on contracts where the author expands universal description, discovery, and integration (UDDI) to k-UDDI to support the mechanisms of negotiation and contracting for knowledge trading. In summary, the article is well organized in its description of the concept and design of knowledge trading systems. The authors combine management science and the most popular Web technologies to serve the "knowledge commerce" research. The system design introduced is clear, and serves as a significant reference application for the development of KM systems. Online Computing Reviews Service
