  • Abstract

In a wireless network environment, the traditional TCP-friendly rate control (TFRC) scheme does not work satisfactorily since wireless losses are reported as congestion losses. This misclassification negatively affects the performance of TFRC or any other TCP-based congestion control mechanisms over wireless channels. Loss differentiation algorithms (LDA) were developed to fulfill this gap and aid rate control mechanisms to better utilize the available bandwidth. In this paper, Biaz, mBiaz, Spike, ZigZag, ZBS, PLC, SPLD, and TD algorithms are evaluated over a wireless-last-hop scenario. We have conducted a set of simulation experiments to evaluate the loss differentiation algorithm. Simulation results show that the TD scheme achieves a slightly better performance under most studied situations.
