Building a cellular networking research program

Published: 22 August 2014 Publication History

Abstract

While innovations in mobile services and applications have thrived, innovations in the underlying cellular systems have been more limited. This is partially caused by the closed and monolithic nature of these networks, where the core design and operational challenges are not very accessible to the research community. This panel will discuss effective ways to build cellular networking research programs in light of these limitations, particularly with respect to future cellular technologies such as SDN, NFV, new waveforms, M2M, millimeter waves, etc.
