Data-driven image registration for coherent change detection of synthetic aperture sonar imagery

Published: 19 November 2014 Publication History

Abstract

Coherent change detection of synthetic aperture sonar images requires more accurate registration than can be provided by recorded navigation data. Instead, data-driven techniques must be used. This paper proposes measuring the position of correlation peaks between corresponding blocks of the images and fitting this data to a model to improve the navigation estimate. This technique is tested on simulated sonar imagery and shown to work well for correcting translation errors.
