Training with Phonak: Serious Game as support in Auditory -- Verbal Therapy for Children with Cochlear Implants

Published: 01 October 2015 Publication History

Abstract

Children with cochlear implants benefit from auditory-verbal therapy, or AVT, a therapy that involves an enormous focus on learning through listening. As the needs of each child can vary greatly, therapist are required to have as wide a range of materials at their disposal to address specific therapy requirements and maintain the interest of the patient in the therapy.
As such, it is clear that well-designed video games can form an invaluable support material for auditory-verbal therapists, enabling them to create an environment in which the child is constantly motivated.
This paper presents a custom designed serious game called "Training with Phonak", to support the rehabilitation process in the acquisition of auditory skills.
