Study on Transit-Time Ultrasonic Flow Meter with Waveform Analysis

Published: 09 April 2018 Publication History

Abstract

Aiming at the problem that the transit-time ultrasonic flow meter is unstable when the flow field is not uniform, a method of combining the judgment of AD (Analog-to-Digital) sampling with the TDC (Time-to-Digital Converter) high-precision timing is proposed in this paper to improve the anti-interference ability of flow meter. In this paper, the stable characteristics of echo signals are firstly studied theoretically, that is to find out the theoretical basis that the peak features do not change with the amplitude of echo signals. On the basis of this theory, the time of downstream and upstream echo signal propagation is measured by using high-precision timing module. At the same time, the peak features extracted by this threshold are respectively obtained. The both features are compared to determine if there is any error in this measurement. Finally, experiments were carried out on two kinds of pipeline devices with non-uniform flow field. The analysis of experimental data proves the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.
