Fast Intra Coding Algorithm for 360-Degree Videos Based on Texture Characteristics

Abstract

In this paper, we proposed a fast intra mode and block partition decision algorithm for Versatile Video Coding (VVC), to reduce the complexity of the intra coding. By analyzing the non-zero coefficients of image block after DCT and its texture direction, the candidate modes of RMD can be quickly reduced. In addition, the decision of coding block partition is made through the combination of texture complexity and non-zero coefficients of image block after DCT. Experimental results show that out proposed algorithm can save 49.76% intra coding time with 0.95% BD-rate loss on average in All Intra configuration when compared with standard JEM 7.0.
