Numerical Research on Sealing Characteristics of Labyrinth with Straight-Through and Honeycomb Structures

Published: 17 October 2019 Publication History

Abstract

In this paper, the numerical simulation of flow and leakage characteristics in two straight-through composite structures of oblique smooth labyrinth and honeycomb are carried out separately. Through which, the effect of honeycomb on leakage characteristics of labyrinth seal was studied. The results show that honeycomb has a great influence on the flow and leakage characteristics of labyrinth structure, which depends on the pressure ratio.
The leakage characteristics of the labyrinth structure with honeycomb is better than the one with the smooth, which happens at high pressure ratio.
