What Are the Key Barriers for the Course Comprehension of Chinese Students in Lecture of French Higher Education?: A DANP Approach

Published: 03 May 2020 Publication History

Abstract

France is the first non-English speaking host country with high-quality education system and multiple preferential policies offering for foreign students. Chinese students in increasing numbers take France as the first choice among those non-English speaking host countries in EU. The purpose of this article is to focus on assessing and improving the efficiency of the comprehension to reduce the gaps in studying in French class caused by the difference between French higher education system and the one of China among dimensions and criteria to achieve the aspiration level. We proposed a hybrid Multiple Attribute Decision Making (MADM) model to solve these problems, the Analytic Network Process (ANP) is used to estimate the direct influence between strategic objectives, and the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) is used to obtain a matrix containing the full influences (direct and indirect) between dimensions and criteria. The results showed that teacher factor is the most influential one than others. This study related to interdisciplinary areas can provide governments and universities with a knowledge-based understanding of how to improve foreign students' comprehension that reduce the learning gaps.
