DentaLean: e-Learning Application for Root Canal Treatment with 3D Simulation

Published: 25 March 2020 Publication History

Abstract

Technology has become an integral part of a human's everyday routine. People have discovered the efficiency of using technology as a learning aid for traditional learning. E-Learning plays a big role in the lives of every student. It is cost effective and saves time to those who need to study while working. In most schools, lecture and laboratory classes are taken by students so that the school can teach and assess the learning progress of the students. This kind of system also applies to dental education. However, some students are lost when initially performing the laboratory exercise since the only learning method they have are books. It helps them to be knowledgeable in the operation, but students are having a hard time in visualizing the whole exercise. This paper focuses on determining the effectiveness of implementing a 3D simulation e-learning system for dentistry students to utilize and incorporate in their study habits. After treatment of data was applied from the experiment, results show that students who used the e-learning system with 3D simulation got a higher score in a dental examination. This shows that adapting a technological methodology is significantly effective in learning skills in dentistry.
