An Improved Equivalent Circuit Model of Tightly Coupled Array

Published: 01 February 2021 Publication History

Abstract

For tightly coupled array, the equivalent circuit model (ECM) is a common tool for analysis and design. ECM can guide the design of tightly coupled arrays with physical insight and consume less computational resource than electromagnetic numerical methods (e.g. FEM, FDTD and MoM). The previous ECM is applicable only when the dipole elements can be treated as Hertz dipoles, the ECM gradually fails as the frequency increases. In this paper, based on the previous paper, an improved ECM is proposed. The improved ECM has better accuracy and adaptability, can better guide the early design of tightly coupled arrays. Two different optimization examples of tightly coupled arrays are given show the bandwidths are 0.56-5.6 GHz (VSWR<3) and 0.49-5.56 GHz (VSWR<2.5), respectively.
