Optimization for Survivable 5G Network Slice provisioning with Augmented Infrastructure

Published: 06 June 2021 Publication History

Abstract

Reliability and URLLC are becoming critical topics which are emerged along with the 5G network. So far existing works in this domain mainly focus on improving the reliability of wireless transmissions. However, from a service point of view, the service end-to-end reliability also refers to the ability of the service provider on providing continued services, even with network failures. In the 5G network, network services are delivered through network slices (NS), we enhance the reliability of an NS by backup critical virtual network function (VNF) nodes; and by optimally deploying the augmented virtual network infrastructure. We propose a mechanism to backup VNF nodes based on a measurement of node importance. We formulate the augmented virtual network embedding (AVNE) problem through Integer Linear Program (ILP) formulation. Finally, the evaluation shows that the reliability of the NS system is improved by introducing such resource redundancy.
