Poster: Uncovering Missed 5G Performance in the Sky

Published: 28 February 2024 Publication History

Abstract

In our prior study [1], we have uncovered and characterize missed performance in operational cellular networks, namely, the performance gap between what user equipment (UE, say, mobile phones) actually gets and what it could have got at best, given the same operational 4G network. In this poster, we present our preliminary efforts to extend the study, with a focus of the UE in the sky (say, cellular-connected drone) in operational 5G networks. Similar to the previous gaps observed in 4G on the ground, 5G performance potentials are also under-utilized in the sky. Moreover, we have found that the missed performance is significantly worse, despite of higher performance potentials in the sky.
