  • Abstract

To analyze the research status, hotspots, and trends of the application of VR (Virtual Reality) in cognitive impairment based on VOSviewer and CiteSpace. We researched the use of Virtual Reality (VR) in patients with cognitive impairment from the establishment of Web of Science (WOS) until 2023. We manually screened relevant literature and used VOSviewer and CiteSpace software for bibliometric analysis. 771 research papers were included, with annual publications increasing and peaking at 153 in 2022. currently experiencing a phase of accelerated progress and advancement; Collaborative teams had a strong cooperative relationship with authors; the journals are mainly Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. Univ Cattolica Sacro Cuore had the largest number of publications. Five keyword clusters were identified, including "executive function, mental health, cognitive rehabilitation, cognitive impairment, and Alzheimer's disease". "Nursing" was a keyword that started to appear in 2021 and has continued to appear since then. VR technology is increasingly used to treat cognitive impairment. The main focus areas in this field are "Meta-analysis, prevalence, Validation, care, risk", with "care" being the latest research frontier. VR plays a crucial role in rehabilitating and treating cognitive dysfunction. As interest in this field grows, research should be continuously strengthened. The application of VR technology to treat cognitive impairment is an important trend that requires collaboration between authors and institutions to improve scientific research output.
