Programming on a tablet: A proposal for a new notation

Published: 01 October 1972 Publication History

Abstract

A new notation is proposed for program specifications hand-printed on an interactive data tablet. The notation represents control statements such as do-end and if-then-else by graphic symbols which allow the representation to be both more succinct and more easily readable. A translation algorithm is given for linearizing the two-dimensional display form of the notation into a traditional string language form for subsequent compilation and execution.
