Anforderungen an eine Bedeutungserklärung im Fachwörterbuch zu Zeiten von Google und Wikipedia – dargestellt am Beispiel des Deutschen Rechtswörterbuchs

From the book Historische Lexikographie des Deutschen

  • Andreas Deutsch

Abstract

Google and Wikipedia pose a challenge to specialised lexicography because they have changed research behaviour significantly - also in relation to dictionaries. Internet research is often more intuitive than systematic. Reliability of information does not always seem to be a priority. This paper aims to show how specialised lexicography can react, using the Deutsches Rechtswörterbuch (Dictionary of Historical German Legal Terms, DRW) as an example. The comprehensive dictionary of historical German and West Germanic legal terms has repeatedly adapted its entry structures to new requirements without significantly impairing its standardised appearance. It seems reasonable to place greater emphasis on an indepth, yet generally comprehensible explanation of meaning. This is where there is great potential for specialised lexicography. This paper will show in detail what this requires.
