Using selected examples from the most famous Polish cookery show culinary journeys of Robert Makłowicz, a pilot study is carried out to examine the particular specialised language and multilingual plurality and diversity of the cookery recipe text type integrated into the aforementioned television/YouTube genre. The paper discusses the sociolinguistic reflections on the political language in the European Parliament as well as the aspect of politicians language as professional communication. „Linguistics for business or business for linguistics” – the role and place of foreign specialize... more „Linguistics for business or business for linguistics” – the role and place of foreign specialized languages in an interdisciplinary BA-level programme at the University of Lodz According to a report of the Association of Business Service Leaders (ABSL) in Poland, Łódź is one of the biggest BPO centres in Poland. As a result, there is a growing demand on the Łódź job market for multilingual employees who also have a good command of specialized languages in such areas as: finance and accounting, information technology (IT), logistics, Human Resources (HR), etc. This paper aims to present the place and role of teaching specialized languages in the curriculum of a new BA programme “Linguistics for Business (L4B)”. First, this article provides an overview of a current employment situation and a projected demand of the local job market for candidates who know foreign languages. Then, it presents a detailed description of the L4B curriculum, which is an innovative and interdisciplinary 3 year BA-level programme. The curriculum of the programme integrates both linguistics and economics (marketing), as well as courses devoted to teaching two foreign languages including specialized languages.

The research results presented are based on the outcomes of the project “The Language Barometer of Łódź 2021. Employees in the Modern Business Services Sector.” The research questions of the survey are primarily directed at the required foreign language skills of the target groups, multilingualism in professional communication, areas of application of foreign languages and knowledge and specialist areas to be mastered at the current position.

The primary research objective is to isolate relevant characteristics of the outsourcing industry in the field of offered company-based general and professional language education, which are of importance for the future adaptation, updating or modification of the DaF-oriented teacher training in German Philology studies in Poland. Thus, graduates can be offered innovative didactic solutions, methods, means and techniques for the realisation of more efficient professional language training.

Professional qualifications are among competencies which still have been on demand on the job mar... more Professional qualifications are among competencies which still have been on demand on the job market. Graduates' key competences also contribute to the security of employability. Competence orientation should, therefore, play an important role in the course design at universities. Rhetorical competence is considered to be one of relevant key competences in professional life, which among others encompasses the ability to present facts efficiently. However, successful presentations at the corporate level require not only rhetorical skills and proficiency, but also specific linguistic skills, and knowledge of specialized languages in particular, manifested by the awareness of professional vocabulary and grammar. It refers to a wide array of specialized contents: from IT, throughout accounting and finance up to logistics. Thus, a market-oriented specialized language course should equally develop two competences: speaking and knowledge of the specialized language. The method how it should be mastered in teaching practice will be shown on an exemplary teaching proposition.

As example follows an analysis of the speech of the German MEP Jens Geier on the expenditures on the building of the House of the European History.
