Digital can serve this need and are therefore used by several cultural institutions. However, creating a digital repository is a complex process, with many requirements. Among the primary choices to be made when developing a repository is that of the software to be used. There is a wide range of options ranging from fully customized solutions to off-the-shelf platforms available a service. This paper presents the three most popular, open-source, digital repository development platforms and attempts to evaluate them based on main features required for developing digital repositories of cultural content.

The exception to this is Makri near Alexandroupoli, which has been excavated almost in its whole extent revealing rich data for the organization of the settlement and the duration of its habitation. In order to improve the knowledge about the Neolithic settlers of Aegean Thrace, an ongoing project focusing on the Neolithic settlements in the provinces of Rhodope and Xanthe was designed, with the aim to investigate their intra-site organization, duration of habitation, palaeoenvironment, and environmental changes that may have affected the habitation. To this end, archaeological surface survey, multi-component geophysical research, pa-118 Dushka Urem-Kotsou et al. laeogeographical and geological investigations including borehole cores, and radiocarbon dating of the samples from drilling cores were undertaken at eight Neolithic settlements. In this paper, we present the results of archaeological surface survey of the settlements and digital technologies developed and applied in this research segment with particular focus on Diomedia, which appears to stand out from the rest with its exceptionally large size.

There were developed two techniques for hand detection in color images and videos which address the difficulties associated with the variety of cameras and lighting conditions and the complexity of the background. The first hand detection technique uses a skin color filter which combines a dynamic skin color model and an explicitly defined skin color region. The second technique employs combination of existing algorithms for motion detection and introduces a novel skin color classifier to improve segmentation accuracy. Motion detection is based on image differencing and background subtraction. Skin color detection is accomplished via a color classification technique that e...

For skin color segmentation an adaptive online trained skin color model is used, while the hand posture recognition is accomplished through a likelihood-based classification technique of geometric features. A novel trajectory smoothing technique based on Self Organized Neural Network is introduced to improve HMM classification performance of dynamic gestures. The aim of the proposed system is the creation of a visual dictionary combining hand postures and dynamic gestures. The system has been successfully tested with many people under varying light conditions and different web cameras.
