The species is characterized by small to medium size basidiomata, a dark brown to greyish brown, tuberculate striate, and depressed pileus with dark brown spots in the centre, a chambered stipe having brownish patches towards the base, globose to subglobose amyloid basidiospores, having covered with bifurcated verrucose ornamentation connected by partial reticulum. Its ectomycorrhiza is typical of the genus Russula and is characterized by the presence of abundant lageniform cystidia with a straight neck and branched emanating hyphae with frequent clamp connections. Phylogenetic analyses based on ITS and LSU sequences support erection of the new species. Phylogenetic network analysis revealed its close position to R. pectinatoides. Fleshy pored mushrooms is the name given to boletes due to their porous hymenium and fleshy natur... more Fleshy pored mushrooms is the name given to boletes due to their porous hymenium and fleshy nature. These are ectomycorrhizal basidiomycetes found in all continents except Antarctica. These mushrooms are important economically due to their edibility and medicinal value. This research work highlights the diversity of boletes in Pakistan and their correct identification by using molecular phylogenetic techniques. Western Himalayan range (WHR) of Pakistan is considered as diversity rich area. During present investigation regarding diversity of boletes in these areas, two bolete taxa viz. Hortiboletus rubellus and Neoboletus luridiformis were found under conifers. These mushrooms were collected and analyzed morphologically as well as phylogenetically by using Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region of nrDNA sequences, and compared with their allies. All description and comparison with related taxa is provided in detail. These boletes are first time analyzed using molecular method from Pakistan.

Ectomycorrhiza of the taxon is dichotomous to coralloid with spiny appearance, pseudoparenchymatous mantle layers; branched emanating hyphae have frequent clamp connections and bottle shaped cystidia with a septum. Phylogenetic studies revealed that sequences generated from Pakistani specimens are closely related to sequences from China. Occurrence of R. livescens in the form of basidiomata is an addition to the macrofungi of Pakistan.

Ascomata are characterized by grayish brown deep cupulate apothecia while the ectomycorrhiza is characterized by a thin pseudoparenchymatous mantle with a few emanating elements. Peziza succosella and its ectomycorrhiza are an addition to the mycoflora of Pakistan and this is the first report of ectomycorrhizal association of P. succosella with Himalayan cedar.

Two distinct types of ectomycorrhize were found and briefly described. Characteristic features of these ectomycorrhizae were dichotomously branching pattern, pseudoparenchymatous mantle and branched emanating hyphae with septations. The two new types of ectomycorrhizal morphotypes are found undescribed previously and are given tentative names until their mycobiont is identified.

Both these species were explored to know the ectomycorrhizal fungal diversity associated with their root system. Morpho-anatomically, 18 ectomycorrhizal types were identified growing in two different ecological zones. Moist temperate region was richer as compared to semiarid region as 15 species were found in association with P. cilliata growing there, while only three were found forming mycorrhizae with P. euramericana. The difference in ectomycorrhizal community composition supported the concept that soil nutrients, organic matter, pH, moisture content and temperature are very important factors to facilitate the growth of mycobionts and their association with roots of higher plants.

Genera are arranged in alphabetical order (Amanita, Boletus, Cantharellus, Clavariadelphus, Clitocybe, Cortinarius, Craterellus, Dermocybe, Descolea, Geastrum, Genea, Gomphus, Helvella, Hydnum, Inocybe, Lactarius, Lyophyllum, Peziza, Porphyrellus, Ramaria, Russula, Sarcodon, Suillus, Tomentella, Tuber, Tricholoma), with species arranged alphabetically within each genus. Each species is given with its distribution and host. A total of twenty six (26) genera are presented.

Eleven different types of ectomycorrhizal morphotypes were isolated from different species of Salix growing in two geologically distant zones of Pakistan with varied environmental conditions. KPK zone has moist temperate while Lahore zone falls in semi-arid climate. These morphotypes were characterized on morpho-anatomic basis. Out of these eight belonged to KPK zone and three to Lahore zone.
