How do you decide how much creative freedom to give influencers? Hint: It rhymes with "schmit shmepends" We made it real easy for you to figure out what exactly to base your decision on with this flow chart. 👇 Creative freedom can depend on two major factors: familiarity and complexity. Familiarity could be: - how long you’ve worked with the creator (new creators are low familiarity) - creator's experience creating content - creator’s experience working with brands Complexity could be: - your product  - the type of content the creator is making If you adjust the level of input (and creative freedom) you provide based on familiarity and complexity, you'll save some time and simplify the process so much creators will love working with you.

Which CTA is better in your first outreach email to influencers? Are you open to collabs? vs. What are your rates for [x deliverables?] We asked 51 influencer marketers this question, and the replies were conflicting. The soft ask was the most popular: “Are you open to collabs?” But, a strong contingent of marketers prefer starting with a clear ask: “What are your rates for [x deliverables]?” Is one camp right and the other wrong? It's not a matter of right or wrong. Each CTA has a time and a place. When to use the soft ask 🪶 • Your offer is flexible. • You open a relationship with a free product • You’re unsure about how you’d like to collab with an influencer • You have the time or the team to email back and forth When to use the clear ask 💎 • Your offer is specific  • You have little to no room for negotiation • You don’t have the time or the team to email back and forth Are you Team Soft Ask, Team Clear Ask, or Team It Depends? #InfluencerMarketing #InfluencerOutreach

It’s never a good time when a collab post goes live, and the influencer’s enthusiasm is…lacking. How do you avoid that? Nycole Hampton usually schedules a call during the selection process, especially for long-term partnerships, to meet creators face-to-face. “A call is a great opportunity to assess if it’s a good fit. Does the creator seem engaged and excited about the idea, or does it feel transactional? Maybe they're so engaged you want to build out an even more robust partnership than you planned.”

A list of activities to build better relationships with creators 👇 • Keep the creative process collaborative. Don’t immediately reject their ideas. Instead, support them where they need it. • Create a landing page or Notion doc answering FAQs about working together, payment processes, brand details, etc., so influencers have a reference point. • Get on a 15-minute call with influencers on your shortlist as a selection filter and introduction to the relationship. • Share a regular newsletter updating creators on top-performing content, your KPIs, and other housekeeping. • Make the collaboration process as easy as possible for influencers. Can you skip 1-2 steps in the content approval process? Do they *really* need to log in to another tool?  • Schedule a once-monthly check-in call with your long-term partners. • Reward top-performing creators with gifts, swag, or events. • Pay influencers on time so they don’t have to keep following up about payments and worrying about rent. • Talent managers are human, too. Don’t forget to build relationships with them just as you do with influencers. • Comment on their posts (and reshare with permission) • Involve them in other business areas, like brand events, product feedback, or product development. • Reward their results with a bonus. • Help them meet their goals (make introductions, offer feedback, etc.) • Brainstorm additional collaboration ideas and partner on more projects together. • Remember birthdays, anniversaries, etc., and send a special note or gift on those occasions. • Say “thank you” and show appreciation for the work they’re doing for you. It’s just a nice thing to do, and people like working with nice people. Keep the list going...what else do you do to build great relationships with influencers and creators?

How much of your budget should go to testing different influencer niches vs. sticking to safe bets? You always want to be testing, but adapt your budget according to your program maturity. Early stage program 👉 70% testing / 30% safer bets Mature program 👉 30% testing / 70% safer bets When you’ve just started influencer marketing, you don’t know what will work yet. This is the time to test different influencer niches and types of content. Once you start learning what works, you can invest less of your budget in testing and more in these safer bests. But whatever you do, don’t stop testing. #InfluencerMarketing
