Texte d'introduction du livre "Joseph Gire et la construction du Rio de Janeiro moderne", qui propose une vu d'ensemble de l'influence de cet architecte français méconnu mais qui fut un des plus prolifique et international de son époque. Son action a marqué le paysage urbain de l'ancienne capitale du Brésil de façon décisive. Le livre contient aussi un essai critique par Jean Louis Cohen, "Joseph Gire et les Beaux-Arts à Rio: une modernisation sans modernité".

Poesia et poeti dei Tuareg del Sahara, sola presentazione d’insieme disponibile sulla poesia tuareg. L’argomento che affronta nella presente opera è particolarmente delicato: quali sono le fonti dell’ispirazione poetica? E ancora: possiamo dire che i poeti si segnalino per un destino biografico particolare? L’autrice, durante i lunghi mesi trascorsi nel nord del Niger fra il 2005 e il 2007, è riuscita a far parlare i suoi interlocutori degli avvenimenti biografici e delle crepe intime che li hanno resi poeti e mai fino a oggi si erano raccolti dati così precisi sull’atto poetico in sé. À partir d’un cas ethnographique – un concours de poésie touarègue au sein d’un festival au nord du Niger – cet article aborde la relation entre l’espace public et religieux, le genre et les normes contestés d’usage de la parole à la veille de la rébellion touarègue de 2007-2009. L’exclusion des femmes du concours poétique suscita différentes réactions de la part des intéressées. Les poétesses les plus jeunes furent marginalisées en raison du contenu politique de leur production. Une poétesse seulement, T., tirant légitimité de son aînesse, appuyée en cela par une partie du public et par les poètes, s’autorisa à saboter le concours, en s’invitant à tout moment sur la scène, en volant le microphone et en déclamant ses tišiway (poèmes). Cet article présente un « poème de critique » récité par T. lors du concours. Après avoir abordé brièvement le champ sémantique du rire dans la société touarègue, des exemples de la production satyrique féminine sont offerts pour contextualiser le poème de T. à l’intérieur d’un genre poétique touareg, l’abayak (litt. « critique », satire ou invective). L’année suivante, après des négociations avec les touristes, des femmes furent admise au concours. L’une d’elles, A., remporta la victoire. Deux de ses poèmes rentrent dans le genre de la louange (temmal) notamment
aux autorités politiques présentes. L’article les compare avec la critique voilée mais abrasive de T. et des poétesses « engagées », qui demeurèrent exclues du concours.

Starting with an ethnographic case - a Tuareg poetry contest in a festival in Northern Niger – this paper discusses the relationship between public and religious spheres, and between gender and disputed norms of speech, before the Tuareg rebellion of 2007-2009. The exclusion of women from a poetry competition aroused different reactions on behalf of the interested women. The younger she-poets, famous authors during the rebellion of the 1990s, were marginalized in light of the political content of their production. Only a senior poetess, T., who derived legitimacy from her birthright, supported in this by some of the audience and some poets, allowed herself to sabotage the competition by intervening on frequent occasions, stealing the microphone to recite her tišiway (poems). This article presents a "critical poem" that is recited by T. during the competition. The paper focuses briefly on the semantic field of laughter in Tuareg society, and examples of female satirical productions contextualize T.'s poem within a literary Tuareg genre, the abayak (literally "critical" satire or invective). In the following year, women were admitted to the competition after negotiations with tourists. Then A., a woman, won first prize. Two of A.’s praise poems (temmal) are compared with T.’s veiled but abrasive critique.

Cet article porte sur la somatisation du processus créateur en partant du cas des poètes touaregs. En analysant deux corpora, les textes où les poètes se décrivent en proie à l’inspiration et les récits que les poètes « en chair et en os » font de ce moment lors de conversations informelles et durant l’acte créateur observé par l’ethnologue, deux différences sont ainsi notées. L’une concerne le corps et les parties du corps impliquées dans le processus créateur. Dans les premiers textes, il est question de « corps en morceaux, en ébullition, en explosion » et des troubles émotionnels qui affectent les organes internes tels que foie, cœur, rate et entrailles. Mais, pour les poètes « en chair et en os », la création se traduit essentiellement par des effets sur la peau (chair de poule par exemple) et les « petits poils et duvets » (hérissement), sur des organes externes donc. L’autre différence concerne la description de l’acte créateur. Si les textes poétiques fixent leur attention sur le moment qui précède la création et font silence sur l’aprèscréation, les récits agissent de façon symétrique et inversée : silence sur l’inspiration et discours sur l’après création, sur le « processus d’autoguérison » apporté par le processus créateur. Pour expliquer ces différences, l’hypothèse suivante est posée : se décrire en état de possession, comme le fait le poète dans cette tradition orale, présente un double avantage, celui de l’inscrire dans une tradition ancienne et celui de mettre en scène un état familier pour ses auditeurs, plus familier du moins que l’inspiration.

This article focuses on the somatization of the creative process through the exploration of the ethnographic case of Tuareg poets. By analysing two corpora- the texts in which the poets describe themselves as “inspired” and as “prey to inspiration” and the informal descriptions given by “flesh and blood” poets of the creative process in moments of informal conversation and during my observation of the creative act. I was able to identify two distinguishing features. One concerns the body and the parts of the body involved in the creative process. As regards the former there is talk of “bodies in pieces, boiling, explosion” and emotional disorders that affect the internal organs such as the liver, heart, spleen and bowels. Moreover for “flesh-and-blood” poets, creation is essentially reflected in effects on the skin (e.g. goose bumps) and “small hairs and downs” (bristling), on external organs. The second feature concerns the description of the creative act. While poetic texts focus on the moment before creation and are silent about postcreation, the informal descriptions operate in a symmetrical and inverted way, offering silence on inspiration and discourse on the post-creation, on the “process of creation self-healing” brought by the creative process. To explain these differences, the following hypothesis is posited: to describe oneself in a state of possession, as does the poet in this oral tradition, has a double advantage, that of putting himself in an old tradition and that of staging a familiar state for his listeners, more familiar at least than inspiration.

Cet article concerne les processus créateurs, les conceptions locales de la personne et de l’inspiration poétique chez les Touaregs, à partir d’une approche ethno-biographique.
Les biographies de poètes recueillies depuis 2004 au Sahara présentent un certain nombre de constantes, comme les traumatismes lors de la petite enfance, (liés aux maladies, aux deuils réels et aux deuils symboliques) qui leur ont conféré une sensibilité aigüe appelée tafrit n iman (litt. « la sensation de l’âme »). En accord avec les conceptions locales de la personne, les poètes sont censés hériter les « nerfs » (izorwan) ou le sang (ašni) d’un ancêtre poète. Les visions en rêve des anciens poètes décédés témoignent enfin d’une intense créativité onirique.

Summary
This article deals with the creative processes, the local conceptions of person and poetic inspiration among the Tuareg, through an ethno-biographical approach. The biographies of poets which I have collected since 2004 in Sahara present a number of constants: trauma during childhood, related to diseases, real grief and symbolic mourning. All these events have endowed them with an acute sensitivity called “tafrit n iman" (litterally " sensation of the soul "). In local conceptions of person, poets inherit “nerves” (izorwăn) or “blood’ (ašni) of an ancestor poet. Finally, dream-visions of dead poets show intense oneiric creativity.

L'objectif de cet article est d'analyser les matériaux ethnographiques sur la culture vestimentaire que nous avons recueillis depuis 2004 auprès des Touaregs en Afrique saharo-sahélienne. Après une description des habits, cet article analyse non seulement les conceptions esthétiques liées aux concepts locaux de légèreté et de luminosité, mais aussi les pratiques vestimentaire contemporaines. Celles-ci témoignent des transformations sociales et des profonds bouleversements symbolisés par la déstructuration du port traditionnel du turban masculin, opérée par les jeunes "ichoumar".  En ce qui concerne le genre, les femmes semblent domestiquer le "proche", incorporant parfois le style vestimentaire et les coiffures des communautés limitrophes (haoussa, bambara, berabish, etc) avec qui sont souvent en conflit ou alors des acteurs télévisés (mode et accessoires Bollywood ou Nollywood). Les hommes acceptent d'incorporer le « lointain », l’« hégémonique » (la mode "occidentale" ou, chez les Touaregs diasporiques, les chapeaux comme le Borsalino, le Panama), exceptionnellement ce qui est considéré localement un bien de prestige (les habits festifs mauritaniens, etc.) mais jamais un symbole vestimentaire marquant l’identité masculine d’un autre groupe (par exemple le chapeau conique haoussa).

This paper deals with the poetical practices of American antropologists, which both reveal important institutional issues and the intensity of relationships which this caused. It illustrates three consecutive periods during the history of American anthropology when researchers have shown a heightened interest for poetry, either because they themselves wrote some or because they where particularly interested in studying it. The first period corresponds to the foundational period of the discipline (192061930). For this the work of Edward Sapir and Ruth Fulton Benedict is examined. More particularly, the paper focuses on the hesitation of these two représentatives anthropologists of the "culture and personality" school between a career in anthropology or poetry. The second period shows the link between the poets of the Beat Generation and the ethno-poets who founded the journal Alcheringa Ethnopoetics (1960-1970). The last period studied concerns the "poetic turn" and post-modernism (from 1980) which coincide with individual and collective publications of "field poetry" (anthropological poetry). This period corresponds to the setting up of institutions such as compétitions and prizes for anthropological poetry.
