Baa-baas kit

edit

I notice that the image of the kit in the infobox shows black socks. The last time I watched a Baa-baas games (a while ago now), the players wore the socks of their home club. Has this tradition stopped, or is the box incorrect? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.124.16.33 (talk) 08:55, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's been changed to white socks in the image, but the problem remains. The Barbarians don't have team socks, the players wear their own home club socks. I don't know how to just remove the socks from the kit image, but I think that is the solution. 98.212.7.6 (talk) 19:43, 19 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Leuchters Restaurant

edit

Could someone confirm that Leuchters was in the Alexandria Hotel. A photo I have shows Leuchters as taking up three stories of a corner of Darley Street and Kirkgate in the New Market. The book then states they would later agree to setting up the Barbarians at the Alexandria Hotel. It's all written to appear as two different establishments. Was this the case? FruitMonkey (talk) 15:17, 25 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fruitmonkey I believe you are correct, they must be 2 separate buildings. By the way, it's Alexandra without the i. I've found this London gazette article, giving address of Leuchters as Darley Street: http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/25082/pages/1091/page.pdf

However Alexandra Hotel seems to have been on or near Great Horton Road. It was demolished in 1993 and apparently is now a car park. http://www.kingsdr.demon.co.uk/cinemas/empire.htm Interesting photostream here just before demolition, with heritage plaque. http://www.flickr.com/photos/s_prior/3529857494/in/photostream/ Judging from the photos it looks more like Great Horton than Darley Street, they look very different. The Alex really should have its own page, sounds like a lot happened there. Kaleeyed (talk) 13:21, 4 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Barbarian F.C. in player info-box

edit

Could we please add “Barbarian F.C.” as a representative team in the info-box of those rugby players who have actually played for it? For example; Sonny Bill Williams has a rugby info-box that includes Toulon, Canterbury, Crusaders and New Zealand as teams he has played for. However, he has also played for Barbarian F.C. and shouldn’t this fact be included in the info-box as well? This is similar to “Indigenous All Stars” in the NRL being included in the info-box of such people as Johnathan Thurston or Brian O'Driscoll having the “British and Irish Lions” in his info-box. This would help make for a more detailed and complete encyclopedia. Hope to hear from someone soon.Suid-Afrikaanse (talk) 10:37, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The majority of past-Barbarian players do have the Barbarians in their infobox and belong to the category:Barbarian F.C. players. Check out any of the 'original' members listed on the Barbarian article. If you wish to add the club then be my guest, that is what Wikipedia is about; but remember that the Barbarians are not a regional or international team, and should be placed with club teams. This is actually an interesting point as there are sections in the infobox for Amateur club, professional club, country and region, but not invitational and representative, such as the old counties, invitational teams such as the Baa-baas and Crawshays or the armed forces. Maybe you would like to bring up the issue on the Wikiproject rugby union page. Cheers. FruitMonkey (talk) 12:50, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I think I will take up your advice. Thanks a lot, really appreciated.Suid-Afrikaanse (talk) 06:45, 20 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Infobox rugby biography

edit

Hey I saw quite a few players have their Barbarian caps mentioned as national rugby union teams in the Infobox rugby biography but there doesn't seem to be a consensus.
Can anyone tell me where has this issue been discussed?

For me it makes a lot of sense to mention their Barbarian caps in the infobox, as the team can be considered as an widely recognized supranational team, and it can be seen as a quite an honor to be selected in such a team, which is not that different from teams like the British and Irish Lions.
I think it just deserves to be mentioned in the infobox, like it's clearly not less important than U20 selections! --Nicoco555 (talk) 21:14, 4 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

Actual name

edit

Why was the name “ Barbarians “ actually chosen when one considers meaning of the name? 2A04:4A43:486F:C827:BDEE:7FAC:D61:6BF1 (talk) 13:56, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Article listing Barabarians players

edit

It surprises me that there isn't an article listing all Barbarians players, similar to the List of British & Irish Lions players. 217.155.59.206 (talk) 12:07, 21 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
