Ghost sighting

edit

I think this section needs a serious edit. Firstly, its on the A3 and is not Burpham. Secondly it is very sensationist and not encyclopedic. Does anyone have any views? SuzanneKn (talk) 18:41, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is going to sound very much as 'I like it', but then I did track down the references to make sure that the information was properly cited and 'accurate', and then copy-edited it. It is certainly on the A3, but it was on the section of the A3 that passes through Burpham, so it is certainly in the right article. As for 'encyclopedic' -- does it do any harm? I think it raises the interest level of the article above the thousands of other articles on English villages. You need to be careful with the article, start removing the 'possibly trivial' and you might have very little left :o)
(BTW, have you seen Exploding animal?) -- EdJogg (talk) 23:59, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oh you have such little faith in these small pages about villages in Surrey. The excitement of doomsday articles and suburbanisation in 1800s is enough without adding ghosts. The crash and decomposing body certainly did happen but is it relevant really. SuzanneKn (talk) 21:32, 18 January 2008 (UTC) PS I'm not sure what exploding animals have to do with it.Reply
The history section has been expanded though unfortunately I've no access to my old Gazeeteers under Worplesdon which I have returned to the library, nor on the internet can I find its entry, as to the ghost the story has at least said it may allude rather than a ghost so definitively, tentatively to the psychological apparitional experience possibility which is more likely explained by a stupid move onto or even over the hard shoulder - if beyond what about in the Wey? Anyway if the story should go under the A3 road as well as here or alternatively - your thoughts? (mine are that for researchers there is better) Adam37 (talk) 21:23, 13 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think you have to consider scope. The incident happened on the A3, but in Burpham. If you add it to the A3 article I can foresee that its relative significance with other events will mean it is 'lost' as superficial.
If it is to remain within WP (and I can understand why people may think it shouldn't be) then this is probably the best place for it.

Pronunciation

edit

The pronunciation given appears to be American. <ur> is pronounced /ɜː/ in southern England, so, assuming this is the pronunciation, why is it not given? — 91.238.123.116 (talk) 12:32, 12 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
