Initial message
Although I find the chronology of Chia pets bizarre, it is certainly not spam (since there are no links for buying these), and seems to be the work of devoted collectors. I'm going to clean up the formatting.--Curtis Clark 04:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Official website?
I'm conflicted about deleting the spam link Official Chia Pet website; if it's truly the one and only "official" web site (representing the trademark owner, or whatever), I can see a point to adding it back, with that fact noted.--Curtis Clark 15:30, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- Official websites are always acceptable on wikipedia. As a whois search can tell you, chia.com is owned by Joseph Pedott Advertising, a subsidiary of Joseph Enterprises. I put down "official website" on the summary so I don't understand the revert. As such, I am putting it back in. Calwatch 19:03, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
- At issue was "an official" vs. "the official". I guess I've been reverting too many spamlinks lately and overreacted.--Curtis Clark 04:54, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Deletions Explained
I deleted the "Chi Pet" from the Other Items section, because it is not a Chia Pet item in any sense. It is a freeware program created by some unrelated person to the franchise. Hense, it doesn't even hedge in on the copywrite name of Chia Pet. If someone wanted to add a Cultural References section to the page, it would belong there. As the page had such a Trivia section at one point, but someone deleted it wholesale, I would assume it doesn't belong at all, unless a more appropriate section were made.
I deleted a false second listing of the Chia Cat Grass Planter that someone had added to the timeline for some reason. The Chia Cat Grass Planter came out in 2004, and was already on the listing in the correct place. There really is no need for the same item to be listed twice, especialy when the second listing is incorrect. Angel the Techrat 07:51, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Picture
So many Chia pet owners and there aren't pictures up? Someone should release a photo to Wikipedia of one. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.44.234.50 (talk) 16:32, 7 February 2007 (UTC).
- The official page, linked at the bottom of the article, has pictures of all non-discontinued ones. I can't think of any pictures of the discontinued ones that I could put up according to the fair use rules. Just eBay photos.Angel the Techrat 03:32, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
Sound Bite?
I wanted to suggest that a sound bite of the theme song (The catch phrase sung in the TV commercial as the plant grows in time lapse, is "Ch-ch-ch-chia!") be put on the page, since Ch-ch-ch-chia! doesn't make it clear what the theme song sounds like. Roberto (talk) 08:49, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Cartoon
Perhaps the recent entries regarding the Obama chias can be moved out of the list of cartoon characters. Phytism (talk) 12:10, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's not a list of "cartoon characters". It's a list of what used to be called Licensed Chia planters, and is now called Famous Chia planters. Mr. T is not a cartoon either. Angel the Techrat (talk) 00:18, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, that is a better heading. Phytism (talk) 16:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
- Um.. no one changed the heading on here. That's what it's always been. Angel the Techrat (talk) 18:02, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, that is a better heading. Phytism (talk) 16:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
1982 origins...???
I know memory can be a fuzzy thing sometimes, I'm fairly certain these date to the 70s if not earlier, marketed as a novelty salad green. Anyone have a circa 1974 Spencer Gifts catalog handy??? I think they're in there... A patent search might turn up proof, maybe I'll check later. Phaseolus (talk) 19:51, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Similar planters very possibly, but not the line produced by Joseph Enterprises marketed as Chia Pet, that this article covers.Angel the Techrat (talk) 14:38, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- The article says that the company founder learned about the planters in Chicago in the late '70's. Now this is based on 30-year-old recollection, but I lived near Chicago as a child up until 1979, and I would have sworn that the ram chia pet was being sold on Chicago TV when I was there. If this is true, then it also contradicts the article's claim that "chia guy" was the first chia pet. I am weary of 30-year-old memories, but I am more weary of product histories provided by manufacturers.--Drvanthorp (talk) 17:13, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
- The Chia Ram was the original Chia Pet. Chia Guy was not the original Chia Pet, and the article does not say so. It was the original Chia Head. Angel the Techrat (talk) 05:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
- The article intro actually did make contradictory claims of Guy and Ram being the first pet. I have removed the former.--Badmoon36 (talk) 03:08, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- The Chia Ram was the original Chia Pet. Chia Guy was not the original Chia Pet, and the article does not say so. It was the original Chia Head. Angel the Techrat (talk) 05:54, 12 December 2012 (UTC)
picture?
This article desperately needs a picture. Could someone please take one and put it up here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skysong263 (talk • contribs) 19:21, 20 November 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know why there was not a photo of a Chia Pet so long; other Wikipedias had the photo I added. —Mikemoral♪♫ 05:00, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
