I've pulled the "usage in popular culture" section. Wikipedia does not exist to chronicle every instance where a particular word or phrase gets used. Editors interested in creating such a list should consider a Wiktionary:Concordance. Rossami (talk) 22:28, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wish there were a way to include the use of this term in contemporary popular culture, because that is the interesting aspect of the term to me.Cogreg (talk) 00:00, 29 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

JuJu Beans

edit

If you ever stumble upon beans lying on the floor in your house don't be quick to get angry at another family member because of them. Stepping on them is irritating to the feet and is enough to cause discord in the house even if someone does not get falsely accused of spilling the beans. JuJu beans are used by the Witch to make families divided and fight. Watch out for this. Understand where these beans came from. Witchcraft has many manifestations. 99.148.199.5 (talk) 00:49, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

edit

From the article it looks like the etymology is the French "game", but is it really? Not native West African? Illang (talk) 16:45, 17 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

In the first paragraph, the line "The term has been applied to traditional African religions,[6]" references Augustus Ferryman, from 1898, which is especially outdated with respect to its assessment of Juju usage. At that point Anthropology was very biased against non-western subjects. Nearby in the text (p.394) subjects are referred to derogatorily as "uncivilized". I suggest removing this source and contents as it is obviously highly biased. I am not an anthropology expert, but I imagine better, more trusted sources could be found to describe historical usage that is more respectful/understanding of subjects.
