use of o.s. In dictionaries
editreading pocket french English dictionary and they use o.s. In certain definitions. What does it mean? Does it mean an old usage of the word? Example: se faire juste- revenge o.s.; commit suicide; thsnks. 66.94.27.11 (talk) 17:10, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- This looks to me like an abbreviation of "oneself". (Compare "s.o." for "someone" and "s.th." for "something.) The beginning of the dictionary should include list of abbreviations used in the dictionary, though. -- pne (talk) 11:11, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

OS → OS (disambiguation) – Times have changed. With computing dominating our lives almost every reference to the generic term "OS means... well, remember this post from six years ago?
This non-existent user certainly got the point. Now we just have to decide whether the move should be done. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 15:30, 3 November 2015 (UTC)I am not sure but shouldn't OS point directly to the Operating Systems page, with a link to this page, instead of here? all the other articles seem a bit obscure to me.

- Oppose "Old Style" and "Ordnance Survey" are prominent uses; and most people are not especially computer literate, so though you may say they all uses OSes, they don't know what it is, OSX and iOS aren't especially illuminating, and Android and Windows doesn't contain "OS". -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 05:38, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Comment if this is moved, I see no reason to move it to "OS (disambiguation)" instead of just "os" (lowercase form) which already redirects here. "Os" is clearly not about Operating Systems; and half the entries are "Os" or "os", which is "Os" -- 70.51.44.60 (talk) 05:38, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose: Yes, everyone is dependent on Operating Systems for a vast array of activities, but without (in most cases) noticing or being the least bit interested in them. "OS" to me means Ordnance Survey or "Outsize". To other people, many other uses. Just leave the dab page where it is. - Oppose: Kent Brockman might, for one, welcome our new Google Maps overlords, but for me, "OS" means the vastly superior "Ordnance Survey" just as much as "operating system" (and, indeed, open source, though FOSS is more common these days). Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:31, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. Operating system is not the primary topic for "OS". sst✈discuss 09:06, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
