I removed the bizarre "low importance" tag. R. Bach is, what, one of the top 20 biggest-selling authors of all time. 81.149.36.207 (talk) 19:21, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

This page needs to be fixed up. I don't have enough experience to know how to wikify it, but I will try. It seems to me that the quotes belong in a Wikiquote instead. Any suggestions out there appreciated. KarateLadyKarateLady 15:26, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I removed the quotes section since the quotes are listed in Wikiquote.

I've added the wikify tag. I'm a new user so if this is an error...somebody please remove it.

As a reminder, it is important to keep unreferenced, or poorly referenced, opinion and personal information out of this article, per Wikipedia:Biographies of living people. I'm going to keep an eye on this article, but it would be best if editors here help out by demanding reliable sources for new additions. Jkelly 20:27, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speaking of which, the information at IMdB is apparantly wrong. There has not been any divorce.Allmovie.com, for instance gets this correct. Jkelly 17:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Right, and how old is that information? Have you followed Bach's work? As I understand (and forgive me if I'm wrong as I haven't read anything of his since One), Out Of My Mind was post-Leslie and partly about his new flame; I forget her name. And I remember reading on his web site (since removed) about how he got a bunch of hate mail after going on about how Leslie was his forever soulmate, then they ended up getting divorced. There was a pretty big controversy at the time, as evidenced by a thousand or so Google hits; I'm not sure why you're so convinced they're still married. I'm also not sure what makes Allmovie.com a more reliable source than IMDb--certainly it's not exactly admissible as evidence in court, but I've seen very little on there that's flat-out wrong, as you're implying the divorce is.
And speaking of court documents, I just found one (see the top of page 10, c-02-01-002) that references their divorce (in 1999, not 1997 as IMDb claims). Is that a more reliable source? Peter 20:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
That certainly seems to me a more reliable source than either IMdB or Allmovie.com, if a somewhat odd thing for us to be citing. IMdB is really just a terrible source; we shouldn't be using it any more than we should use an unreferenced statement from a different Wikipedia article. I'm by no means invested in the accuracy or completeness of Allmovie.com, but it at least has an editorial process. Jkelly 20:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Right, I'll put it back in, then, and update the date and reference accordingly. As for IMDb, I assume you mean its bio information, as opposed to actors/titles/roles/etc., which seem entirely accurate. The bio information does indeed seem a little sketchy sometimes, like quoting Celebrity Sleuth for actresses' measurements, and "Who Are They Dating Now" gossip. Peter 20:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I meant their bio information. Jkelly 20:43, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Illusions

edit

This was commented out from the main article. I checked, and as I also find no evidence of the Illusions movie, I deleted it from the article. VikÞor | Talk 05:48, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Commented out; it's silly to have out-of-date movie info and then say it's out of date in the next sentence. If this isn't updated with current info, this whole block should be deleted.

One of Bach's most popular and inspiring works,[citation needed] Illusions is now in the movie-production phase (2006).[1] The film is being directed by French filmmaker Yann Samuell. As of January 2007 there is no indication that "Illusions" is being made into a movie on Internet Movie Database either under the listing for Richard Bach or Yann Samuell.

HondaJet

edit

Richard should be HondaJet's spokesman and celebrity pilot so he can gracefully live down that 'prediction' from "One:" "Honda does not even make jets, never have never will." Maybe that was what got them going! MWS (talk) 22:27, 31 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

R. Bach a direct descendant of J. S. Bach?

edit

The article states that Richard Bach claims he is a direct descendant of Johann Sebastian Bach. What is the source for that, please? According to the book The Encyclopedia of Useless Information, by William Hartston, J. S. Bach’s last direct descendant was his grandson Wilhelm Friedrich Ernst Bach who died December 25, 1845 at age 86. Although I would hardly call this book a definitive source, it does make me wonder about this alleged claim by Richard Bach.

If it can be documented that R. Bach ever made such a claim, then it should be noted in the article that the claim is not true for factual reasons if that should be the case. Does anyone have other sources showing this claim is false? Does anyone have documentation that Richard Bach ever made such a claim? On the latter point, if not then the claim should be removed from the article. On the former point, if so then it should be noted that the claim is incorrect and that Bach is not a direct descendant of J. S. Bach at all. HistoryBuff14 (talk) 16:15, 3 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

In The Bridge Across Forever, chapter 20, Leslie Parrish refers to J. S. Bach as "your great-granddaddy," and Richard -- in his narrator's voice, not directly to Leslie -- calls him Granddaddy. I took that as probably a play on the identical name and did not assume there was necessarily an actual relationship. I don't think the book claims to be pure autobiography, so I don't think that incident in the book is an appropriate source to say Bach ever made such a claim, much less that it's true (which is why I have not edited the article one way or the other). But I do wonder if that is what the editor who added this statement was thinking of. 68.102.48.153 (talk) 03:27, 16 November 2013 (UTC) (Edited for clarity, 68.102.48.153 (talk) 06:51, 20 December 2013 (UTC))Reply

Can we find a picture that represents Bach from the front?

edit

The article has but one picture, and in it Bach is seen from the back (I assume it is he) whereas two other persons are seen from the front and one of these two is the best lit of all. An unwary visitor to the page would naturally assume the well-lit, short gentleman on the right to be Bach, when in fact he is the leftmost in the group of three (or at least it sure looks a lot like him, and I know for a fact that the other two are not him). Can we have a picture where Bach is seen from the front? For example, this one (which is probably copyrighted) http://media.npr.org/assets/img/2012/09/01/richard-bach_vert-a1660e656dd99328a1cbe918f8e04c41a2e19a21-s51.jpg or this one, from circa 2012 http://kdfrases.com/imagens/richard-bach.jpg (which is certainly copyrighted as well), are both far better examples... Certainly we could find something in the public domain that represents him better? SrAtoz (talk) 00:50, 10 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Birth year

edit

The birth year of R. Bach is inconsistent with other wikipedia entries (generally 1936). Is the year 1937 really correct, as it says here?

Publisher

edit

Pretty certain the publisher should be Macmillan Publishers (United States), not the British publisher Macmillan currently linked. My father was an executive at the latter at the times, so on the one hand I'm quite sure of this, but on the other I might be seen as having a conflict of interest in correcting the link myself, so I leave that to someone else. - Jmabel | Talk 04:17, 30 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Amazon "about" page

I guess considered not notable? But since this article mentioned Bette Jeanne Franks book? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaelhurwicz (talkcontribs) 21:46, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

I've looked and cannot find any independent reliable sources that mention Oliver or his book. (Also, new threads always go to the bottom of the page so I moved this one.) Schazjmd (talk) 21:57, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
